St Johns Park is located in the western suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 35 km west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. St Johns Park is located in the Cabramatta state electorate and has a population of 5,483 people. The suburbs surrounding St Johns Park are: Greenfield Park, Prairiewood, Edensor Park, Wakeley, Canley Heights, Cabramatta West and Bonnyrigg.
Prior to white settlement the St Johns Park area was home to the Cabrogal indigenous people who inhabited land throughout what is now known as the Fairfield and Liverpool areas. When the first fleet arrived the area was designated to the the parish of St John and through that connection, the suburb of St Johns Park gained its name.
The suburb is best known for its involvement in the ‘Restoring the Waters’ project which was the first of its kind in Australia and involved restoring a concrete channel into a living ecological stream. The project took 7 years to plan and cost $1.33 million dollars, and was a great feat in environmental research.
