Peakhurst is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 21 km south of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Peakhurst is located in the Oatley state electorate and has a population of 9,180 people. The suburbs surrounding Peakhurst are: Riverwood, Hurstville, Padstow, Mortdale, Padstow Heights, Lugarno and Peakhurst Heights.
Named after one of the landholders after white settlement, John Robert Peake, the suburb of Peakhurst was established in 1808. The first industry in the Peakhurst area was timber cutting, in particular for the area’s natural turpentine woods. The first school in the area was opened in 1871 and the first post office opened in late 1885.
The suburb’s primary commercial centre is located along Forest and Boundary Roads and hosts many retail shops, cafes and restaurants. Peakhurst doesn’t have a railway station, but a number of buses operate throughout the suburb.
