Bexley is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 14 km south of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Bexley is located in the Rockdale state electorate and has a population of 19,067 people. The suburbs surrounding Bexley are: Bexley North, Bardwell Valley, Arncliffe, Kingsgrove, Rockdale, Hurstville, Carlton and Kogarah.
After white settlement, the Bexley area was named by James Chandler, after his birthplace in London. Chandler himself was a respected member of the community who was locally known as the “Squire of Bexley”.
Although the suburb of Bexley was once a bustling hub, it suffered a serious decline during the 80s and 90s and today has just a small commercial district. Since the opening of Westfield Hurstville, most of the local residents travel to nearby Hurstville for their shopping needs.
Bexley is primarily a residential suburb and is well known for it’s many parklands including Heritage Listed Seaforth Park.
