Dulwich Hill is located in the south western suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 9 km south west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Dulwich Hill is located in the Marrickville and Canterbury state electorates and has a population of 12,981 people. The suburbs surrounding Dulwich Hill are: Summer Hill, Lewisham, Petersham, Hurlstone Park, Marrickville, Earlwood and Marrickville South.
Previously known by a number of different names including Petersham Hill, Fern Hill and Wardell’s Bush, the suburb was officially named after the London area of Dulwich in 1892. Dulwich experienced a period of rapid growth during the early 1900s and as a result the suburb has many examples of historic architecture including Australian Federation, Edwardian, Italianate and Gothic architecture.
Due to it’s age, the suburb has many buildings which are listed on the Australian Register of the National Estate, including the Dulwich Hill High School of Visual Arts and Design, which was built in 1892, is in the Romanesque style and was designed by W.E.Kemp.
