About Campsie Sydney 2194
Campsie is located in the south western suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 13 km south west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Campsie is located in the Canterbury state electorate and has a population of 21,218 people. The suburbs surrounding Campsie are: Belfield, Croydon Park, Ashbury, Belmore, Canterbury, Kingsgrove, Clemton Park and Earlwood.
Named for the Campsie parish of Stirlingshire in Scotland, the Campsie area was originally inhabited by the Indigenous Cadigal Wangal clan of the Darug tribe. Evidence of their inhabitance can still be found in many sites along the Cook’s river with some paintings and etchings aged at over 5,000 years old.
After European settlement the Campsie area was used primarily for farming. The suburb experienced a residential boom after the railway was completed in 1895, the first post office was opened in 1900 and the first public school opened its doors in 1908.
These days, Campsie is known for being an ethnically diverse suburb with a large number of Chinese and Korean residents. The main shopping centre of the suburb is located on Beamish Road, branching out from around the railway station. There are additional retail outlets between Evaline and Amy streets.
