Georges Hall is located in the south western suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 24 km south west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Georges Hall is located in the Bankstown state electorate and has a population of 8,669 people. The suburbs surrounding Georges Hall are: Landsdowne, Ball Hill, Lansvale, Yagoona, Bankstown Airport and Condell Park.
The suburb of Georges Hall was named for Captain George Johnson, who was granted land in the area and named his farmlands “Georges Hall”. The original site of his home was on Prospect Creek near Henry Lawsons Drive.
The suburb is home to Garrison Point, a parkland of significant historical value. The parkland was named for the garrison of soldiers stationed in the area to protect George Johnston while he conducted Australia’s first ever official census in 1809.
The suburb is also home to Lake Gillawarna, which is adjacent to Garrison Point and is an artificial lake that has become an important breeding ground for many species of native birds.
Other significant landmarks in the Georges Hall area include the Duncan Gray Velodrome, Mirambeena Reserve and The Homestead on Lionel Street which was build in 1837 and is listed on the Register for the National Estate.
