Rhodes is located in the Inner West region of Sydney; it is situated 16 km west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Rhodes is located in the Reid state electorate and has a population of 6,423 people. The suburbs surrounding Rhodes are: Meadowbank, Ryde, Putney, Wentworth Point, Concord West, Liberty Grove and Sydney Olympic Park.
Rhodes was named in honour of one of it’s most notable early residents, Thomas Walker, who named his property ‘Rhodes’ in memory of his grandmother’s home in England. The suburb was heavily industrialised in the early 1900’s and is just 3 km from Olympic Park, home of the 200o Olympic games.
These days, the suburb has three distinct sections, each with its own unique personality. The eastern sector of the suburb has many family homes and a number of parks and recreation areas. In the central section, there is a mixture of both residential and commercial properties. And the western section of Rhodes is primarily new development areas. The western section of Rhodes is expected to be one of the most densely populated areas of Sydney within a few years.
