About Stanmore Sydney 2042
Stanmore is located in the Inner West region of Sydney; it is situated 6 km south-west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Stanmore is located in the Grayndler state electorate and has a population of 7,151 people. The suburbs surrounding Stanmore are: Leichhardt, Annandale, Camperdown, Petersham, Newtown, Marrickville and Enmore.
The suburb was named by John Jones, a wealthy saddler who named it after his birthplace in London. In the early 1900’s Stanmore saw a small industrial boom, but later become a residential suburb.
One of the main attractions of Stanmore is Olympia Milk Bar, a cultural icon and folk lore legend. The bar is located on Parramatta Road – one of Sydney’s main traffic arteries – and was once a bustling milkshake house. These days it hosts a small selection of menu items but many historic displays. The shop has been referenced throughout pop culture including the song “Dr Death” by Sydney band Sheik the Shayk as well as books by Vanessa Barry and Anthony Macris.
