About Wetherhill Park Sydney 2164
Wetherill Park is located in South Western Sydney; it is situated 34 km west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. Wetherill Park is located in the Smithfield state electorate and has a population of 6,125 people. The suburbs surrounding Wetherill Park are: Prospect, Pemulwuy, Greystanes, Smithfield, Prairiewood, Bossley Park, Abbotsbury and Horsley Park.
The traditional owners of the land in and surrounding Wetherill park were the Cabrogal clan of the Gandangara tribe, who lived in the area for 30,000 years prior to white settlement. The suburb was named for a business man who donated 21 acres of his personal property to the New South Wales state government to be used as parkland.
One unique aspect of the suburb is that many of the streets are named after famous writers including Gore Vidal, William Shakespeare, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Locke, Nikolai Gogol, Richard Swinburne, Homer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Richard Swinburne, Charles Dickens and Geoffrey Chaucer – to name but a few!
According to the 2006 census, the vast majority of the suburbs residents live in the south-east corner of the suburb, with the rest of the land area being used as an industrial area.
