St Clair is located in the Western suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 49 km west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. St Clair is located in the Mulgoa state electorate and has a population of 10,981 people. The suburbs surrounding St Clair are: St Marys, Colyton, Minchinbury, Orchard Hills and Erskine Park.
Prior to white settlement, the St Clair region was inhabited by the Indigenous Dharug people. After colonisation, St Clair area was part of a larger area named South Creek, and later it became unofficially known as South St Marys. The area remained largely rural until a new housing development was built in the 1970s. The housing development was called St Clair and although the name had no historical significance, the suburb appropriated the name after the development was completed.
