The suburb was named after English chemist John Bossley, who owned a significant amount of land in the area. He named his land Edensor after a small village in Derbyshire England and when Edensor was subdivided in 1890, it was named Bossley Park.
After the second world war, Bossley Park became home to many migrants from Italy who have significantly influenced the culture of the suburb. The residents of the suburb are predominantly Catholic, Assyrian Orthodox and Anglican.
