Mulgoa is located in the Greater Western region of Sydney; it is situated 66 km west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Mulgoa is located in the Mulgoa state electorate and has a population of 2,200 people. The suburbs surrounding Mulgoa are: Megalong Valley, Regentville, Glenmore Park, Orchard Hills, Luddenham and Wallacia.
Mulgoa has a land coverage of 5530 hectares and was named for the Mulgoa group of Indigenous people who were just one of the original Indigenous tribal groups that inhabited the area prior to white settlement. The name Mulgoa means ‘black swan’ in the Dharug Indigenous language which the Mulgoa people spoke.
These days Mulgoa is home to largely Australian born residents. A large number of families live in the area and the main housing options are family homes. There is no publicly funded transport to this area of the western suburbs but there is a privately run bus that runs from Mulgoa into Penrith.
