Kurrajong is located in the North Western region of Sydney; it is situated 75 km north west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Kurrajong is located in the Hawkesbury state electorate and has a population of 3,123 people. The suburbs surrounding Kurrajong are: Kurrajong Heights, Bilpin, Blaxlands Ridge, The Slopes, Kurmond, Grose Vale and Kurrajong Hills.
Named after the Aboriginal word for a ‘fibre yielding plant’, Kurrajong is located west of the Hawkesbury River, on the lower slopes of the Blue Mountains. The area was settled in 1790 and today is a popular tourist destination. It is known for it’s serene atmosphere, beautiful views and proximity to the tourist attractions in the Blue Mountains. Including the Jenolan Caves and the Katoomba Scenic Railway.
The suburb has a busy guest accommodation scene, mainly catering to Sydney-siders looking for a quiet weekend escape. Kurrajong has a small commercial area, with many shops aimed at the tourist market, particularly in the Old Pansy Junction.
Each October the town hosts a festival called the Scarecrow Festival which attracts many visitors.
