About Menai Sydney 2234
Menai is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 28 km south of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Menai is located in the Menai state electorate and has a population of 10,592 people. The suburbs surrounding Menai are: Holsworthy, Alfords Point, Illawong, Bangor, Lucas Heights and Barden Ridge.
Named after the town of Menai Bridge in Wales, Menai was originally known as Bangor until the name was officially changed to Menai in 1910. The suburb is particularly vulnerable to bushfires, and was one of the towns affected by the 1994 Eastern seaboard fires which raged over 22 days in the summer of 93/94. There were over 80 individual fires in total and more than 200 homes were destroyed.
Menai is a popular residential suburb with a bustling shopping district along Menai Road. The suburb is not on the Sydney train network and isn’t serviced by the Sydney Buses Network, but there are 3 train stations within a 10km radius and many residents use a drive-park-ride approach to get to work.
