About Eastwood Sydney 2122
Eastwood is located in the North Western region of Sydney; it is situated 17 km north west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. Eastwood is located in the Epping and Ryde state electorates and has a population of 16,193 people. The suburbs surrounding Eastwood are: Carlingford, Epping, Marsfield, Denistone East, Ryde, Denistone, Denistone West, Ermington West and Dundas Valley.
Prior to colonisation, the Eastwood area was inhabited by the Wallumedegal Indigenous people who were the traditional land owners of the entire land area between the Lane Cove River and the Parramatta River. The area was originally called Walumetta before being named Eastwood by William Rutledge, an early Irish free settler.
Today, Eastwood is a large urban centre with a large shopping district. Eastwood is famous for apples, in particular the Granny Smith, which was first grown in this suburb. Each year the suburb holds its annual Granny Smith Festival, a family friendly celebration with market stalls, fairground rides, street theatre, fireworks, parades and even an apple baking competition. Due to its large population of people with Asian heritage, the suburb also has a vibrant Lunar New Year Festival which merges the traditions of the Chinese and Korean new year celebrations.
