About Alexandria Sydney 2015
Alexandria is located in the Inner City region of South Eastern Sydney; it is situated 3.8 km south of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Alexandria is located in the Heffron state electorate and has a population of 7,050 people. The suburbs surrounding Alexandria are: Erskineville, Eveleigh, Redfern, Waterloo, Zetland, Beaconsfield, Green Square, Rosebery, Mascot, St Peters and Newtown.
Alexandria is located just 2 km south of Central Station, which is the transport hub of Sydney. The suburb was named after the wife of King Edward VII, Princess Alexandra. In 1943 Alexandria was the biggest industrial precinct in the whole of Australia. Today Alexandria remains largely an industrial suburb, however there are small pockets of residential areas in the northern section of the suburb near Erskineville and Waterloo.
Interestingly there are more non-Australian born residents of Alexandria than Australian born residents, with 22.7% of the population hailing from England, 10.6% from Ireland, and 7.6% from Scotland.
