About Rouse Hill Sydney 2155

Rouse Hill is located in the Hills District region of Sydney; it is situated 42 kms north west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. Rouse Hill is located in the Hawkesbury and Riverstone state electorates and has a population of 7,482 people. The suburbs surrounding Rouse Hill are: Box Hill, Nelson, Annangrove, Beaumont Hills, Kellyville, Kellyville Ridge, The Ponds, and Schofields.

The area that became known as Rouse Hill was previously two distinct areas called the Village of Aberdour and Vinegar Hill. Rouse Hill is an infamous part of Australian History because it is the site of an Irish Rebellion Battle – The Battle of Vinegar Hill (also called the Castle Hill rebellion). During the battle, on March 4 1804, Irish convicts and political prisoners broke out of their encampment and started an uprising. It was their aim to seize control of the area, in particular they wanted to gain power of Parramatta. Military authorities eventually took control of the rebels, but with a considerable loss of life.

The suburb was named for Richard Rouse. His home, Rouse Hill House, is included on the Register of the National Estate and is run as a house museum. It is managed by the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales and includes much of the family memorabilia making it a unique record of late-Victorian childhood in Australia. The collection inspired a prize winning novel called “Abyssinia” by Ursula Dubosarsky.

Nearest Post Office: 10-14 Market Lane, Rouse Hill, NSW, 2155.
