Kenthurst is located in the North West region of Sydney; it is situated 39 km north west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Kenthurst is located in the Hornsby state electorate and has a population of 5,250 people. The suburbs surrounding Kenthurst are: Annangrove, Glenorie, Middle Dural, Kellyville, Dural, and Glenhaven.
The suburb was originally called ‘Little Dural’, but in 1886 the locals held a meeting to change the name to something more ‘elegant’. The suggested new name was “Kent Forest” after the Kent County, where most of the local settlers had come from, but the name wasn’t popular, and after some discussion the name Kenthurst was chosen instead.
These days Kenthurst is a semi-rural suburb, with blocks of land averaging around 5 acres. The Kenthurst shopping complex has a small number of shops including a supermarket, newsagent, butcher, bottleshop and hairdresser. Across the road from the shopping complex is the Village Green which features a basketball court, swimming pool and a large park area with BBQs, a playground and park benches.
