About Carlingford Sydney 2118
Carlingford is located in the Hills District in North Western Sydney; it is situated 22 km north west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Carlingford is located in the Baulkham Hills and Parramatta state electorates and has a population of 21,570 people. The suburbs surrounding Carlingford are: North Rocks, West Pennant Hills, Beecroft, North Parramatta, Epping, Oatlands, Telopea and Eastwood.
The suburb was originally called ‘Mobbs Hill’, but the name was changed to Carlingford with the arrival of a post office in 1883. The name Carlingford was chosen because of the areas similarities to the town of Carlingford located in Eastern Ireland.
Prior to white settlement the Carlingford area was inhabited by the Wallumedegal or Wallumattagai Indigenous people who were part of the Eora language group and whose name was derived from the Eora word Wallumai, which means ‘snapper fish’.
These days Carlingford is a residential suburb with many high-density units and apartment blocks, particularly around the train station. There is a commercial hub located on Pennant Hills Road with a number of speciality stores, eateries and supermarkets.
