About Blacktown Sydney 2148

Blacktown is located in the Western Suburbs region of Sydney; it is situated 34 kms west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. Blacktown is located in the Blacktown state electorate and has a population of 43,374 people. The suburbs surrounding Blacktown are: Marayong, Kings Park, Kings Langley, Lalor Park, Seven Hills, Prospect, Eastern Creek, Arndell Park, Woodcroft, and Doonside.

Prior to white settlement the Blacktown area was inhabited by the Warmuli people of the Darug tribe. It has been estimated that up to 90% of the Darug population were wiped out by disease within a short time after the arrival of the first fleet. Although much of the land in the area was ‘granted’ to white settlers, Blacktown is one of the few suburbs that included land grants to Indigenous Australians, granting land to Colebee and Nurragingy in the early 1800s.

Blacktown gained notoriety in the 1980s when 26 year old registered nurse Anita Lorraine Cobby was abducted in the suburb and murdered in nearby Prospect. The suburb contains a park in her memory in Sullivan Street called the Anita Cobby Reserve.

Nearest Post Office: 22 Main Street, Blacktown, NSW, 2148.
