Jannali is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 28 km south of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Jannali is located in the Miranda and Menai state electorates and has a population of 5,955 people. The suburbs surrounding Jannali are: Como, Oyster Bay, Kareela, Bonnet Bay, Sylvania, Woronora Heights, Sutherland and Kirrawee.
Named for the Aboriginal word meaning ‘place of the moon’, Jannali is primarily a residential suburb with a vast amount of bushland reserve. The suburb itself began to develop as early as 1884 with the arrival of the railway line, but the Jannali railway station itself wasn’t built until almost 50 years later in 1931. The suburb experienced a residential boom after World War II with many residential blocks being offered to returning servicemen.
The Jannali railway station runs on the Sydney Trains Network along the Illawarra line. The suburb is also services by 2 bus routes, route 967 and 968 on the Transdev NSW network.
