Dishwasher Maintenance

How to Maintain and Clean your Dishwasher | Master Appliances

With any commercial or domestic appliance, it is important to clean, maintain and service your appliance and DIY dishwashing repair and service is no exception to this rule. Debris and deposits can build up over time and reduce the performance of your dishwasher. Avoid costly dishwashing repair and service by following these simple instructions.

Step One

Before you start cleaning, servicing or any DIY dishwashing repair, it is important to follow safety procedures. With a dishwasher because it is connected both to the electrical system and the plumbing system, make sure you empty the dishwasher, unplug the dishwasher from the power source and shut off the power supply and disconnect any power cables.

Step Two

The next thing you need to do is to check the dishwasher manually to makes sure there is no debris, food particles or residue or deposit build up and grease. Every part of the dishwasher needs to be checked paying particular attention to the racks where debris can be trapped easily and hard to reach places such as the sides and the top of the dishwasher and the bottom of the dishwasher.

Step Three

If your dishwasher has built up rust, you will need to tackle this problem before it gets any worse but also investigate why this has occurred. Use a dishwasher safe remover firstly to remove the rust. To prevent rust on the machine, check for holes in the machine and cover them with a plastic coating material or sealant. This prevents premature rusting of the dishwasher and is an important part of DIY dishwasher maintenance.

Step Four

After you have followed these steps, run the appliance through a regular cycle. For a DIY dishwashing repair, you can use commercial dishwasher cleaners or use 1/2 cup bleach or 1 cup household vinegar to clean and service the dishwashing appliance. As well as cleaning the appliance, you are listening to any unusual sounds and also trying to detect any strange odours.
