About Richmond Sydney 2753

Richmond is located in the North Western region of Sydney; it is situated 63 km west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. Richmond is located in the Londonderry state electorate and has a population of 5,560 people. The suburbs surrounding Richmond are: North Richmond, Cornwallis, Carendon, South Windsor, Hobartville, Londonderry and Agnes Banks.

Located at the foot of the Blue Mountains, the Richmond area has a complicated history. While being historically significant in terms of agriculture for the white colonists who settled across New South Wales, it is also the site of the Battle of Richmond Hill which took place in 1795 between the European settlers and the Darug Indigenous people. During the battle colonial authorities sent troopers out with the direct intent to destroy the Indigenous population in the area.

These days Richmond is a quiet suburb with many heritage buildings listed on the Register of the National Estate including: the Court House and Police Station, St Peter's Church and Cemetery, and Clear Oaks Homestead on Francis Street, among others.
