About Milperra Sydney 2214

Milperra is located in the south western suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 24 km south west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales Australia. Milperra is located in the East Hills state electorate and has a population of 3,844 people. The suburbs surrounding Milperra are: Chipping North, Georges Hall, Condell Park, Moorebank, Revesby, Hammondville, Voyager Point and Panania.

Located within the City of Bankstown, the suburb of Milperra was named for the Aboriginal word meaning 'a gathering of people'. The land in the Milperra area was owned by George Johnson Jr after white settlement, however after World War I, returning servicemen relocated to the area to start poultry farms and vegetable gardens. Because of this, the area was officially called "Bankstown Soldier Settlement" for many years and many streets are named after well known World War I officers and battles.

The Milperra Viking Tavern has the unfortunate honour of being the site of "The Milperra Massacre" in which members of rival motorcycle gangs had a showdown. 6 men and a 14 year old girl were killed in the fight.

Notable residents of Milperra include: Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe.
